Here we go again…only this time it’s a blizzard, not a hurricane.
Will we get three feet of snow? Will we lose power? And if we do, what will happen to my orchids?
They say the worst of it will hit between 5 pm and 5 am tonight. If I can post tomorrow, I’ll let you know what happens…..
One good thing is the quiet – except for the wind. Everything is closed and work is suspended.

Now is the time for that generator you were so jealous of in October! I loved it then but will breathe much easier now if the heat decides to go off. The snow really is quite beautiful; I really missed it last year. The main worry is not so much the snow as the very strong winds that are predicted! Take care, DN, and batten down the hatches!

We don’t have to use the generator very often, but it is so nice to have when the power is out for any extended time. After having one for many years, I wouldn’t be without it! Drag him out next season and get one! I say next year because between Sandy and this storm, they are probably nonexistent!

Thanks, CJ. We had to leave our house this morning. It was just too cold. We are staying at my in-laws until further notice, or until I go insane, whichever comes first.

We could have toughed it out, but our dog has congestive heart failure, and she was coughing quite a bit. So I made the call and we left. Glad we did.

Across town, can’t open back door b/c of the blown snow depth. power outages throughout South County at 6PM. Good books here and some hand sewing projects (2 yrs overdue!)…. gorgeous white snow on branches, hope to take photos Sat. Oooops, dimming lights, got to run. Sending best wishes to bloggers here, fallen branch just hit side of house, crap. yikes,

I read that you are OK and evacuated – wise decision. This is our 3rd night sleeping in piercing cold temps and we decided that this would be our final night here. At 10 PM we huddled under a 2 foot pile of polartec and down blankets; unidentifiable rumblings caught our ear. What the heck? Wow, it’s the furnace coming alive. So grateful – how have the Sandy-devastated people in NJ and NY endured this long in these temps? Strong people! I am almost embarrassed to be writing about our experience. Remember that branch that hit our house on Friday evening? It was a neighbor’s tree with co-dominant leaders and a weak notch. Wind sheared one of the leaders – weak notches, anyone. Sorry to say that I’d warned them about this years ago. Glad no one was hurt. When tussling with the large branches, I lost my balance and went face-first into a snow drift. Frankly, I’ve enjoyed much of the past 3 days: walks in order to stay warm, chatting w/ strangers and neighbors, appreciating the beauty of snow and ice, hot oatmeal made on a camp stove. Even the inconvenience of wearing 3 clothing layers, simple meals, and lack of refrigeration are all good. What I miss most is my music….
