I shot this in Quebec, before we finally got snow. I took a lot of photos of trees on our various hikes. This path through a stand of conifers had a mysterious, dreamlike quality. I believe the trees are pines and hemlocks, but I don’t really remember.
There are some giants in these woods. I can’t figure out how they survived so long without being chopped. Every time I see one, I have to stop and admire its presence and tenacity.
This tree looked like something out of a fairy tale – the scary kind.
This was the biggest one of all, an ancient maple.
And, bonus, it was hollow inside!
There were few old hemlocks, too. So stately.
Trees are always an essential element of my winter hiking experiences.
Beautiful!

Thanjs CJ. I thought so too.

“Scary” tree pictures: Reminiscent of the apple-throwing trees in Wizard of Oz.

That’s it exactly. But the vibe in the woods wasn’t scary at all.

Loved these tree photos! Just started working on my Christmas present to myself…a subscription to Ancestry. Although we knew my husband’s family came from Canada, we knew little else. I just found the citation for his grandparents in Montreal, Quebec. My side is all from Ireland, and I’m back about 6 generations there. I have never been so addicted to the winding travels of family! What fun!

How interesting. I am half Irish and half French, you know.
