I loved reading the info on the dahlias. Man for years I have been trying without much success until last winter. My friend who goes to Arizona every winter let me store my dahlias in her heated garage. I think it probably was 50 degree . Never having any luck EVER just put the tubers in a brown paper bag from the grocery store and through peat moss on them. Wow was I surprised in the spring to see the signs of life ( green sprouts) smiled and just shook my head. Hoping to do it again this year…

Love Digging RI…..the information is so informative and helpful as we go through the winter months ….starving to “plant tomatoes”…..and flowers of course. As long as you “”Specialists” continue to write, we will continue to read for sure. Thanks again for encouraging my green thumb to stay “green” as I look forward to planting the beautiful sunflower seeds with my grandchildren.
    Great articles as always…..

Hello I’m retiring from the military and we are moving to Newport for a few years. I have limited experience with gardening and want to learn how to create a sustainable garden. We will eventually retire to the state of Maine. Can you suggest Anywhere to volunteer or work to gain organic gardening experience? Or “to the point” books? Simple layman’s terms. I appreciate your time.
