At least someone’s enjoying the heat

I promised you updates on my tomato experiment, so here’s one. If this gets too scary, just cover your eyes….

Here’s my giant “Sungold,” busily making fruits.

And here, graced by some verbena bonariensis, are the other tomato plants, so tall they’re beginning to obscure our living room windows!

Are these awesome or what???? I am feeding them, whenever I remember, with seaweed-fish emulsion.

Here’s the eggplant. Also huge. In fact, these are the largest plants I have ever seen – at least in my garden.

So things are looking rather robust in my new veggie beds, no? Here’s how they looked not even a month ago, shortly after I had the useless shrubs removed.

Almost scary – in a good way.

no veggies here unfortunately but even our Lady’s Mantle leaves are 3 x their normal width. Almost creepy, seemed to happen quickly.

It has to be the torrid weather that is contributing to these huge plants! Mine are like this too, but a word of warning. Along with the heat and big plants, an infestation of tomato hornworms appeared in the garden. I just picked twenty five monster worms off my plants and am totally disgusted by the damage they do. There was not a parasitic wasp in sight and all of the worms were egg free. Keep an eye out; it doesn’t take long for defoliation. I know the leaves will grow back, but right now I would like to strangle someone…or something!

Ha! I do absolutely nothing. They probably haven’t discovered them yet, because it’s the first year I am growing them there.
